What is the best North Goa itinerary for 1, 2 or 3 days?
For 3 days, do one loop a day: heritage and the Calangute–Baga coast, then Anjuna and Chapora, then the far north or a slow day around Aldona. For 2 days, do the first two loops. For 1 day, follow the one-day version further down. Distances in this guide are road distances from our house in Corjuem, Aldona.
Day 1: Heritage houses, the coconut road and the Calangute–Baga coast
Day 1 takes you from the inland heritage belt to the busiest beaches, in that order, so the crowds come at the end of the day. Start at the Houses of Goa Museum (14.3 km), a ship-shaped building by Gerard da Cunha that tells the story of Indo-Portuguese homes through models, sketches and artefacts. It is closed on Mondays, so do not start this loop on a Monday.
Drive on to the Parra coconut tree road (14.5 km) for the photos, then to Mãe de Deus Church in Saligao (15.4 km), a neo-Gothic church built between 1867 and 1873. Spend the afternoon at Calangute (18.4 km) and Baga (17.6 km) for water sports and a shack lunch. If you want the nightlife of Tito’s Lane, go; if not, leave before sunset and you will miss the worst of the traffic home.
Day 2: Anjuna, Vagator and a Chapora Fort sunset
Day 2 is the Anjuna–Vagator side of the coast, timed to end on the walls of Chapora Fort at sunset. If you are here between November and April, do this loop on a Wednesday: that is the only day the Anjuna Flea Market (18.1 km) runs, from mid-morning until around sunset, with handicrafts, clothes and food stalls.
After lunch on Anjuna or Vagator beach, walk up to Chapora Fort (18.6 km). The Portuguese rebuilt it in 1617 on an older site, and it is the fort from “Dil Chahta Hai”. There is no entry fee; the climb is short but steep and uneven, so wear proper shoes and aim to be up there between about 4:30 and 6:30 pm. If you still have energy on a different day, add Fort Aguada (24.3 km) near Candolim, built by the Portuguese in 1609–1612, with its old 1864 lighthouse; see our Goa fort trail for more forts.
Day 3: Arambol and Mandrem, or a slow day around Aldona
Day 3 has two options: the far-north beaches, or a slow day close to home. Arambol and Mandrem (29 km) are calmer than the Calangute belt, with long sands, yoga cafés and good sunsets; it is the longest drive of the three days, so leave after breakfast. At Arambol, walk north along the beach to the Paliem Sweet Water Lake, and stay for the sunset drum circle that gathers on the sand in season.
If you would rather rest, stay local. Corjuem Fort, built in 1705, is 5 minutes from our gate (restoration work has been going on, so check it is open), and the Aldona–Corjuem cable-stayed bridge is right next to it. Mayem Lake, with GTDC paddle boats, is about 15 minutes away, and on a Friday the Mapusa market, about 18 minutes away, is worth a morning. Our Aldona travel guide covers these in detail.
What if I only have one day in North Goa?
With one day, combine the best of Day 1 and Day 2: Parra coconut road and Saligao church in the morning, a Calangute or Baga beach lunch, and Chapora Fort for sunset. That is roughly 50 km of driving in total from Aldona, and it keeps the hops between stops short.
How do I get around North Goa from Aldona?
A taxi or a rented scooter is the practical way to do these loops. Book cabs on the GoaMiles app or the government Goa Taxi App, or hire a local taxi for the full day. If you rent a two-wheeler, take one with yellow/black commercial number plates only; a helmet and a driving licence are compulsory. We have free secure parking and an EV charging point, so self-drive guests are easy to host. Beaches are about 35–40 minutes from us by road, so plan one loop per day rather than several short trips.
When is the best time to follow this itinerary?
November to February is peak season, when every stop on this list is open and the beach shacks are running; Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks. October and March are quieter shoulder months. In the monsoon, June to September, the sea is rough and many shacks close, so swap beach time for the forts, the Houses of Goa Museum and the green inland villages around Aldona.
