What is a homestay, and how is it different from a hotel or villa?
A homestay is a home where the host family lives on the property and guests stay in part of it. A hotel gives you staff and services without a host family; a villa gives you a whole house to yourselves.

Should you stay in the beach belt or a quiet village?
Stay in the beach belt (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna) if you want to walk to the sand and the nightlife. Stay in a hinterland village like Aldona if you want quiet nights and do not mind a 35-minute drive to the beach.

Traffic and time. Staying inland means each beach day starts with a drive: from us, about 35 minutes to Calangute or Baga and 35–40 minutes to Anjuna or Vagator. In return, Thivim station is about 20 minutes away and Mopa airport about 40.

What should you check before booking a homestay in North Goa?
Before you book any homestay, confirm nine things: AC, power backup, WiFi speed, parking, food, house rules, real reviews, the exact map pin and the direct price. Here is what to ask, and our answers.
- AC in every room. “AC available” can mean one room has it; ask about the room you are booking. Ours: individual AC in all rooms.

- Parking. Ask whether it is on the property and secure. Ours is free and secure, with an EV charging station for guests.
- Food. Ask who cooks, what meals cost and whether you can use a kitchen. Here, breakfast is home-cooked from ₹100 per person, Goan veg and non-veg meals are on request, and the full kitchen has an air fryer, induction, chimney and RO drinking water.
- House rules. Read them before you pay. Ours: no parties, alcohol in moderation, no smoking indoors (terrace only), no beef or pork on the premises. Check-in 12:00 pm, check-out 10:00 am.
